Working Principle

The Kaishan K50 DTH drill bit operates as part of a down-the-hole hammer system. Compressed air is fed through the drill pipe to the DTH hammer, which contains a piston that reciprocates at high frequency. The piston strikes the shank of the drill bit, transmitting impact energy to the carbide buttons. Simultaneously, the bit rotates slowly via the drill rig's rotation unit. The combination of impact and rotation causes the carbide buttons to fracture the rock through a combination of crushing and chipping. The flushing holes in the bit direct exhaust air to the hole bottom, lifting cuttings to the surface and cooling the bit. The spline drive ensures efficient torque transmission while allowing the bit to move axially for impact. This mechanism enables high penetration rates in hard rock with minimal energy loss.
