Working Principle

DTH drill bits work in conjunction with a down-the-hole hammer. The hammer is attached to the drill string and lowered into the hole. Compressed air is fed through the drill pipe to the hammer, driving a piston that strikes the bit's shank. The impact energy is transferred to the tungsten carbide buttons on the bit face, which crush and fracture the rock. Simultaneously, the bit is rotated slowly, allowing the buttons to indent fresh rock surfaces. The air then flushes the cuttings out of the hole through the flushing grooves. The K10 bit is designed to withstand high impact and abrasion, with buttons strategically placed to maximize energy transfer and rock breakage. The connection between the bit and hammer must be secure to transmit torque and impact efficiently. Proper air volume and pressure are essential for optimal performance and bit life.
